Tarot beginner tips✨
✨- Your deck doesn’t have to be gifted to work! I’ve heard a lot of stories and myths that in order to get into tarot, your deck has to be given/gifted/hand down to you & that’s not at all true! Feel free to go & get one yourself!
✨- Cleanse your deck after you get it! When buying a deck it’s important to cleanse your deck (there’s tons of ways) to rid it of all the other energy. Regardless of if it’s from a store or online store, multiple people have handled your deck and you want to make sure it’s cleansed & connecting with your energy alone.
✨- Cards that jump out are important! A big mistake I first made was thinking that jumping cards meant I was shuffling/mixing the cards wrong. Not true! Usually when cards pop out at you (literally) it’s because that card has meaning for you in some way. It’s like your cards are trying to tell you something.
✨- Find a deck you can easily interpret/read! I recommend searching a while for cards just to make sure that the deck you get is one you feel connected to - in energy, in the design, in the images, etc. The more we love the cards themselves and things like that, they’re easier to read and overall connect with.
✨- Take some time to view the individual cards! When you give yourself time to look over the images of the card than the more you’ll be able to understand the individual card and the more you’ll find how to interpret it & even your own associations/interpretations of the card which can make reading them easier!
✨- Pull a daily card to get used to them! The best way I’ve found to start easing your way into card reading is to just simply pull a daily card every morning to see what it has to say and then reflect on that card later that night and see how it reflected back in real life. This way you can spend more time by actually using the cards but in a very simple & easy way.
✨- take your cards with you everywhere! This might sound kind of weird but sometimes the best way to really get to know your cards (& for them to tune in with your energy) is to simply take them with you. Place them in your bag, put them under your pillow, simply carry them around the house with you, etc…
✨- Use your intuition with the cards! This is so important! Sometimes the typical or obvious descriptions just won’t work for you personally so sometimes it’s best to use your intuition for a reading (& that’s okay!!). Often the first isntict we get when pulling a card is the correct way to view it. Intuition & energy is really useful, especially when your cards are in tune with you
✨- Find your own rules & what works for you! Like the above point, not everything that works for others will work for you! Tarot is an intuitive/divinatory tool and so it can be very personal to the individual. Kind of like how the color green can mean one thing to someone and another thing to you. You kind of have to find your own rules & interpretations!
✨- Try to use them only when you’re unbiased & calm! Sometimes the cards can reflect our bias or we review the card in our favor so it’s best to be in an unbiased and calm state of mind for a more accurate reading.
✨- be kind to your tarot deck! Honestly I feel like this might be a given but treat your cards right & with respect! You want to keep your cards nice (& treat them like a living thing as weird as it sounds) and care for them. Treat your cards nice & the better you bond!!
✨- Begin a tarot journal or binder! Write down the reflections & interpretations you have in a journal. Write down certain readings that stick out to you! This can be nice to look back on (like a divination diary) and it can be helpful with future interpretations and getting used to understanding and remembering your cards.
